Steven M. Gottlieb, M.D. is a physician executive and healthcare serial entrepreneur. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and critical care medicine, and subspecialty training in interventional pain management, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has over 30 years of experience in senior leadership positions in the healthcare industry, including actively investing in and assisting growth of early-stage companies. He most recently served as CEO of TeamHealth Anesthesia, the national anesthesia division of TeamHealth (NYSE: TMH)—one of the largest providers of outsourced physician staffing solutions for hospitals in the US.
Dr. Gottlieb has founded, managed, grown and exited several successful businesses. For example, he was co-founder, CEO and President of Anesthetix Management— a leading national provider of anesthesiology and pain management service solutions to hospitals and surgery centers throughout the US. He successfully led the company through its growth and development, including a private equity investment by Summit Partners in 2006, its acquisition by TeamHealth (a Blackstone company) in 2009, and an IPO in 2010.
Dr. Gottlieb has served on numerous boards of directors and in various leadership positions within hospital, community, and professional organizations. For example, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center he served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, Executive Director of Pain Management Services, President of the Medical Staff, and member of the Medical Center Board of Trustees. He also served as member and Chairman of the Bulloch County Board of Health, Board Chairman and President of the East Georgia Physicians Group, and Medical Director of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Dr. Gottlieb’s non-clinical board participation has included Temple University, Anthem Associates, Billing Management, OncoHost, Coagulo Medical Technologies, Negotiated Solutions (dba TruVue Analytics), First City Bank of Commerce, and the Palm Beach Round Table.
Dr. Gottlieb has led or participated in a range of successful investments in a variety of early-stage growth companies, both inside and outside of the healthcare industry. Among other things, Dr. Gottlieb currently serves as Chairman of Javelin10x, an organization which functions as a strategic operating partner to early-stage entrepreneurial companies and helps accelerate their growth and success.
